On Monday April 6th, JLG will present a panel entitled “Inclusion In Name Only: Feminism, Immigration, and the Asian American Experience” about sexualization and the immigration process. Speakers will include professor Stewart Chang and visiting professors Jennifer Chacón and Noa Ben Asher. 12-1 pm in Pound 102. A small group coffee will follow with details TBD.

On Wednesday April 8th, 12-1 pm in WCC 1023, HLPR will present a panel on consumer protection and competition with local plaintiffs’ practitioner Lauren Guth Barnes, Public Knowledge’s President and CEO Gene Kimmelman, and the CFPB’s Deputy General Counsel, Stephen Van Meter. Clover lunch will be served!

On Wednesday April 8th, 12 – 2 pm in WCC 2019, Journal on Racial & Ethnic Justice will host a panel examining the genesis of Professor Cheryl Harris’ influential 1993 Harvard Law Review article “Whiteness as Property,” its impact on Critical Race Theory and legal education, and its relevance to contemporary civil rights debates, including criminal justice. Panelists will be Professors Cheryl Harris, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Devon Carbado and Jasleen Kohli. Non-pizza lunch will be served.

On Thursday April 9th, CR-CL will host a conversation with police accountability luminary G. Flint Taylor. Mr. Taylor, along with the People’s Law Office, has led trailblazing investigations that have uncovered unprecedented and systematic injustices committed in and by the City of Chicago. Mr. Taylor’s efforts have led to the exoneration and compensation of men who were tortured into giving false confessions and to the exposure and cessation of Chicago’s “street files” program, which withheld Brady material wholesale. Mr. Taylor will discuss historic police abuses and the present cultural moment while reflecting on a long and accomplished career. 12-1 pm in WCC 1023. Mr. Taylor will be available to meet with interested students from 1:30 – 2:30 to continue this discussion in a smaller setting. Coffee and tea will be served.
